You should have seen the comments on
my Facebook page when I started posting this blog over the first few weeks of the season. Everyone thought I sounded a little nutty, predicting dominance this year by the Niners. To be fair, I've simply been pointing out that they've had the talent the last several years to be the
NFC West champs, they just were coached really badly. Harbaugh is doing a masterful job and he has smart coordinators. So, yes, my predictions have been spot on the first ten weeks of the season.
The national media has now jumped on the train, with countless talking heads calling the
Niners the only threat to the
Packers in the NFC. It’s like the last 10 years of misery never happened. Niners and Packers will decide the NFC! I almost want to curse the non-believers from two months ago and disagree just for the sake of it. No, no.. I am the official 49er HOMER and won't be jumping off the bandwagon anytime soon. At first it was a wild ride, being the only true believer, but it's made it sweet to welcome everyone to the party.
Now the only question seems to be whether or not Alex Smith can carry the team, if the defense and run game can’t? Heck, I think we just got a taste of that this week against a playoff level team in the
New York Football Giants. The formula is in place: dominate the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball and play perfect on special teams. Mix in creative play calling and continued weekly improvement, and the talking heads may get their wish of a Niners Packers playoff matchup. Join me in listening to San Francisco continue this dream of a season against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday afternoon on ESPN 1320.
